Coinstats portfolio tracking and balance synchronization
Coinstats portfolio tracking brings supported wallet and exchange balances into a shared portfolio view through connected accounts and addresses. Automatic updates depend on the selected connection, its permissions, and the balances that the integration supports. A CSV import creates a manually maintained portfolio instead. To assess whether syncing worked, compare asset quantities within the same account scope. A moving portfolio value alone cannot confirm a fresh balance import because market prices also affect that figure.
Updated onBottom line: A successful portfolio refresh depends on connection access and balance coverage, while changing market prices can move the displayed value separately.
Establish automatic updates before relying on the total
To track changing holdings without uploading files, you need a supported automatic connection. After a refresh, the imported asset quantities should match the corresponding holdings in the connected wallet or exchange account. This keeps the comparison focused on holdings rather than price movements.
For an exchange account, the connection must expose the balances that you need through its supported authorization method. For a wallet, the address and relevant blockchain must belong to a supported connection. A recognizable account name alone does not establish that every balance within it will appear.
- Choose an automatic connection if ongoing balance updates are required.
- Confirm that the relevant account balance or blockchain is supported.
- Use the connection’s required read permissions without enabling fund transfers.
- Compare imported quantities with the same account or address after refreshing.
- Use CSV or manual entry only if maintaining the records yourself is acceptable.
With those prerequisites satisfied, connect the account or wallet and allow its data to load. Compare the imported quantities with the corresponding holdings. Matching supported balances establish that this connection meets the requirement; they do not establish complete coverage of unrelated accounts.
If automatic access is unavailable, a compatible CSV import can provide records for a manual portfolio. Even when its initial quantities match, the portfolio needs periodic file imports or manual maintenance to reflect later activity.
If a required balance remains missing, resolve the connection’s access or coverage before relying on the total. Otherwise, track it manually and update the record as holdings change.
Read permissions determine what an exchange can expose
An exchange connection retrieves account information through an application programming interface, or API, using the access that the account authorizes. Some integrations accept an API key and secret; others also offer an account authorization flow. Required credential fields vary, so a passphrase or additional account permission may belong to one integration without applying universally.
Coinstats uses read-only API access for exchange synchronization. Reading account information does not require permission to execute trades or withdraw assets. Access restrictions, credential expiry, and account permissions can affect whether a connection continues retrieving data. An expired credential requires renewed authorization; repeated refresh requests cannot repair it. The API secret remains sensitive because read access can reveal holdings and activity, even without spending authority.
Wallet addresses identify the holdings to retrieve
Address-based tracking associates a supported wallet address with its blockchain data. The wallet connection accepts the public address rather than the recovery phrase that controls the funds. Some supported wallets also provide extension-based connection options. Those methods identify the account for tracking; they do not imply that every blockchain used by that wallet has identical coverage.
The address, network, and supported asset types define what the tracker can display. A wallet application may contain several accounts, while the connected address represents only part of that collection. Compare the imported holdings with that address’s holdings on the relevant network. Comparing them with an application-wide total can create an apparent discrepancy even when the selected address was imported correctly.
What does Force Sync update?
Force Sync requests a manual refresh of a connected portfolio using the data available through that integration. Automatic connections also refresh periodically. Neither method expands the integration’s permissions, adds unsupported balance categories, nor turns unavailable transaction history into accessible records.
A refresh request and a reconciled balance are different observations. The control initiates the update; the resulting asset quantities show whether the displayed holdings match the connected account. The connection must provide the updated balance before the tracker can display it, even if the transaction itself is missing from the imported history. Avoid interpreting a successfully requested refresh as proof that every underlying record has arrived.
CSV portfolios have a separate update mechanism. Refreshing their displayed market values does not import activity that is absent from their records.
Why can portfolio value change without a new transaction?
Portfolio value can change because asset prices move while the recorded quantities remain unchanged. For a priced holding, its displayed value depends on its quantity multiplied by the price used for valuation. A new valuation therefore does not necessarily mean that an account balance was synchronized again.
For a synced exchange portfolio, Coinstats uses the connected exchange’s coin price. The main coin list uses a global average, which can differ. Compare quantities first when investigating synchronization. If quantities agree and monetary values differ, inspect the price basis and display currency before assuming that a transfer or purchase is missing.
Price alerts concern market movements. Receiving an alert does not establish that the portfolio’s account data has just refreshed.
Current balances and imported history can diverge
A connection can provide a current balance while supplying incomplete transaction history. Some integrations expose balances without past trades; others limit the historical records available. This distinction matters because matching today’s quantity does not prove that the tracker can reconstruct how that quantity accumulated.
Coinstats can create a Fill transaction when imported activity does not explain the available balance. That entry supplies an adjustment within the tracker. It is not evidence that a corresponding purchase occurred at the assigned time. Historical charts can consequently show quantities that do not match the account’s actual past holdings.
Balance reconciliation answers whether the current quantity matches. Checking imported trades and purchase prices answers a separate question about performance calculations. Keep those investigations separate so that a correct balance does not conceal an incomplete history.
Which exchange balances belong in the comparison?
Compare only the account categories that the selected integration supports, using equivalent totals on both sides. Spot holdings, funds committed to orders, derivatives accounts, and earning products can have different coverage. Support for the exchange itself does not establish support for each category.
An exchange-wide total can include assets beyond the imported account scope. Available funds can also differ from a total that includes committed funds. Before treating the difference as a sync error, identify what each displayed balance includes. A mismatch that remains within equivalent account categories is more informative than a comparison between two differently defined totals.
Unidentified assets and missing prices
A visible asset without price information can reflect unsupported or unlisted coin data. Coinstats provides a Hide Undefined Balances setting for these entries. Hiding them changes presentation; it does not establish their value or resolve their identification. Keep the distinction between an absent quantity and an unavailable price: the first concerns holdings data, while the second concerns valuation. A cleaner display does not necessarily mean more complete coverage.
Included portfolios shape the combined balance
The Calculate Amount on Total setting controls whether an individual portfolio contributes to the All Assets balance. A portfolio can remain in the list while its balance is excluded from that total. This setting matters when individual account quantities look correct but the combined figure does not. Supported DeFi positions have a separate Include DeFi in Total option; the portfolio chart does not include DeFi data. Overlapping records also deserve attention: an automatic connection and a manual record of the same holdings can represent the same assets twice.
CSV portfolios need new imports or manual updates
A CSV import supplies the records contained in the uploaded file and appears as a manual portfolio. It does not establish ongoing access to the exchange. Activity outside the file remains outside that imported record until another supported import or manual update adds it.
A connected portfolio retrieves supported account data through its integration. A CSV portfolio relies on supplied files, while manual entry relies on individual records. All need accurate inputs, but only the automatic connection retrieves subsequent account data without another file or transaction entry. Choose the method whose update requirements fit the records you can maintain.
Preserve the connection while investigating a mismatch
Deleting a connected portfolio removes its previously synced data from the app, so deletion is a consequential troubleshooting step. Reconnecting starts synchronization again using the data that the integration can provide. It does not make unavailable historical records accessible or remove the integration’s balance restrictions.
For an unresolved discrepancy, retain the affected account scope, asset quantity, and any connection error. These details distinguish an access problem from incomplete coverage or a valuation difference. Support can investigate a specific mismatch more effectively than an unexplained combined total. Keep API secrets and wallet recovery phrases out of screenshots or ordinary messages.
If the connection supports all the holdings that you need to monitor, resolve the remaining access or data issue. Otherwise, choose a manual record that you can maintain or another tracking method that covers those holdings.
Coinstats portfolio tracking: questions and answers
Can I scan a wallet address instead of typing it for portfolio tracking?
The mobile wallet connection flow supports scanning a wallet address QR code. The web address-based flow accepts a pasted address. Scanning changes how the address is entered, not which blockchain or assets the integration supports. The selected connection still needs to correspond to the holdings that you want to track.
What can prevent a wallet extension from connecting to the portfolio?
Conflicts between enabled wallet extensions can interfere with the connection. Temporarily disabling other wallet extensions or reloading the page can resolve that particular problem. Re-enable any extension that you temporarily disabled afterward. This addresses browser connection conflicts; it does not change the tracker’s support for the wallet’s assets or networks.
Does Private Mode remove synchronized portfolio information?
Private Mode hides portfolio information on the display rather than deleting the imported records. On the web, sensitive figures appear as asterisks. This is useful when viewing a portfolio around other people. It should not be treated as revoking an exchange connection or removing the account data that the tracker already holds.
Are funds in a tracked public wallet necessarily mine?
A tracked public wallet balance does not prove that you own or control its funds. Someone can add another person’s public address to a portfolio and display its holdings. Adding that address gives viewing access, not spending authority. A request to pay money to unlock such a displayed balance is a scam indicator.
Do I need to authorize a blockchain transfer to refresh an address-based portfolio?
An address-based portfolio refresh does not require a blockchain transfer. The connection uses the public address to retrieve supported holdings data. A transfer or token-spending approval is a separate action with different consequences. A request to move assets should therefore not be interpreted as a routine requirement for refreshing tracked balances.
Who can help recover an accidentally deleted manual portfolio?
Coinstats support accepts recovery requests for manually added portfolios. Provide the portfolio name and relevant details through the in-app or on-site support chat as soon as possible. This differs from reconnecting an automatically synced wallet or exchange, which retrieves data again through its integration. A manual portfolio depends on the records previously entered or imported.
